Good Reviews for Ozarks Unbound, Fayetteville

More good reviews for Fayetteville, and a good start for a Fayetteville startup….

The Fayetteville region made CNN Money’s list of best places to launch a small business, as reported by Ozarks Unbound, an online magazine/herald of local politics, culture and the arts for Northwest Arkansas.

Launched in June, OU founder and former journalist Christopher Spencer offers up a little candid self-reflection that he calls the “four month folly.”

For those not familiar with OU, it’s well worth a look. Hyperlocal news is a growing trend and represents the future of journalism. Old-school dinosaurs may long for the feel of newsprint (to each his own fetish…), but even the most curmudgeony of us would have to admit that it’s pretty cool to be around during a time when the manner by which people receive their news is changing so drastically.

One of the innovative ways OU is helping to spark this trend is through its Snapshot feature, where Spencer attempts “to give readers a look at crime in the area on a specific day, like your traditional police beat from the newspaper but with all the groovy bells and whistles allowed online…”

  1. I deeply appreciate the fantastically nice write-up about Ozarks Unbound. It’s very kind of you. It’s all a big experiment, but experiment are what’s needed right now in the news world, I think.

I love the recognition from CNN about Fayetteville as a great place for start-up businesses. The city is lucky to also have a wonderfully keyed in hyperlocal site called The Fayetteville Flyer. They do a great job.
