Arkansas Patent of the Month

INOV8 introduces Arkansas Patent of the Month, formerly known as Arkansas Patent of the Week. Perhaps formerly known as Prince…

In an effort to leave INOV8′ers salivating in anticipation, we moved the semi-regular look at Arkansas patents  — to be more precise, the most quirky or interesting — to the last Tuesday of the month.

U.S. patents are issued each Tuesday, and we figured the last Tuesday of the month would give us a chance to look back and peruse those patents issued out of our increasingly innovative state.

Arkansas saw six patents issued this past week, which represents a 2009 weekly high.  Although there were many worthy candidates, such as the bumper hitch wobble reduction device and the plasma processing system, the Patent of the Month for October goes to the cancer-treating nanotubes being developed by scientists at UALR and UAMS.

Arkansas Business has reported several times on the research being done by state scientists using nanotubes to track and help destroy cancer cells.

And on Tuesday, the sometimes long and bumpy patent process was realized. Very cool stuff, and stuff that is gonna put Arkansas on the research map one day.
