Tough Times Will Lead to Best of Times

Jeff Gardner, Windstream CEO, is about to deliver the luncheon address at Commerce Arkansas, which has drawn about 1,000 to the Statehouse Convention Center.

The second-annual business expo sponsored by Arkansas Business and the Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce is underway today and runs through 4 p.m.

Business leaders and experts are on hand to offer their expertise and analysis of the current business climate.

In the morning session, Little Rock commercial real-estate magnate Hank Kelley offered his take on the current environment. While it included its share of gloom and doom — nationwide, the commercial real estate market is down 26 percent with another 14 to go, he said — Kelley offered a glimpse of the silver lining.

“If you can make it through this period, then it’s the best of times,” he said. “There are signs of growth locally,” Kelley said. “People are reaching down to try and make the next step happen. The good news about the bad news is that in our area, once we can get through this contraction, I think we’re well positioned in central Arkansas for growth with our diversified economy.”

INOV8 and Twitter haven’t been getting along today, but look for more updates from Commerce Arkansas right here…and we’ll tweet if we can. You know where we are.
