Arkansas and Broadband

Posted in Business Climate, Information Technology by mcarter on March 18th, 2010

The U.S. is getting bully about broadband. And so is Arkansas.

The FCC has unveiled a plan to make affordable, high-speed Internet connections available to all Americans and make existing broadband access must faster.

Connect Arkansas vice president Michelle Stockman told Arkansas Economic Issues Breakfast Series attendees that broadband has evolved from a luxury to a necessity in just five years. America, she said, is falling behind other countries in terms of broadband access.  Connect Arkansas is working on further mapping the state’s broadband coverage and on ways to connect those who can’t get or afford coverage.

Arkansas is not yet at the forefront of broadband access, she reports. In terms of Arkansas’ emerging development as a home for high-paying, high-tech jobs, broadband access seems fairly integral.

Let us know what you think of the FCC’s plan, and Connect Arkansas’ efforts to get Arkansas connected.
