The annual CTIA Wireless Conference kicks off Wednesday in Las Vegas. Expect the unveiling of some cool new innovations. Among them:

Apisphere and AT&T announce an agreement to wirelessly connect a location-smart animal collar to help pet owners keep track of their pooches. The dog collar has an embedded wireless SIM and will leverage Apisphere’s geo-mobility platform to transmit location-aware data across AT&T’s network directly to a pet owner’s cell phone or computer. Owners may establish a geo-fence around the home where the pet can roam freely. Through the technology, owners can continuously track Fido’s movements with the virtual geo-fence, or locate him on demand if he strays outside of his established parameters. Vizit, the first two-way, fully interactive digital photo frame powered by [who else] AT&T.

Vizit enables friends and family to send photos in real-time, regardless of location. How it works: Simply email a photo to the frame address and it arrives within minutes, connecting families with visceral images. Then, with just a touch of the screen, Vizit users can share, reply, forward, favorite and delete any image on the frame.

Vitality and AT&T will announce that AT&T will provide the nationwide wireless network connection for Vitality GlowCaps, intelligent pill caps designed to help patients take medications regularly. The GlowCaps fit on standard prescription bottles and use light then sound reminders, which can be followed by a phone call or text message so people don’t miss a dose. Each time the pill bottle is opened adherence data is recorded and securely relayed to Vitality over the AT&T network. This daily adherence information is used to compile periodic progress reports that are sent to patients, caregivers and doctors, and family members.

INOV8 promises that other wireless carriers will be represented, but this AT&T offering represents a good feel for what to expect. In others news,  Sprint is saying that it will begin offering 4G service later this year, covering perhaps 120 million by year’s end.
