The INOV8 blog tracks the latest news and trends in technology and innovation throughout the world
The numbers are in. The final, actual numbers. The true tally, straight from the Google’s mouth. Nine Arkansas cities/government entities applied for selection as a trial location for Google’s planned ultra high-speed broadband network.
Google published the list on April 15. More than 1,100 cities nationwide, and nine from Arkansas. They are: El Dorado, Fayetteville, Fort Smith, Hot Springs, Independence County (Batesville), Mountain View, North Little Rock, Searcy and Siloam Springs. Little Rock considered submitting an application, but ultimately chose against it.
It appeared for a while that only two from Arkansas had applied — Fort Smith and Mountain View. Not the case. Good luck to all. INOV8 hopes one of them can bring home the fiber.
Meanwhile, check out Mountain View’s Google odyssey. While we’re at it, here’s this story from the Hot Springs Sentinel-Record on the Hot Springs bid, and The City Wire chronicled Fort Smith’s entry.
