Silicon Solar Solutions Set to Ring NASDAQ Bell Friday

Another University of Arkansas startup, another prestigious business-plan competition win, another NASDAQ bell ringing. More international prestige for Arkansas entrepreneurs.

It’s a good thing, because Arkansas football fans sure aren’t getting any love these days (just wait ’til October; we’ll see who loves us then).

IA client Silicon Solar Solutions will join a contingent of Arkansas dignitaries, including INOV8′s own Professor Techpreneurship himself, Jeff Amerine, and Arkansas Economic Development Commission director Maria Haley, to ring the bell tomorrow (Friday, Aug. 20) at Times Square in New York City.

The honor of ringing the bell was bestowed on SSS when it won the international LES Graduate School Business Plan Competition in Boston this past May.

Another UA startup, BiologicsMD, has rung the NASDAQ bell twice in the past three months. Arkansas firms have been making some noise in this arena in 2010.

Check out video of Silicon CEO Douglas Hutchings at LES here. In it, he explains his firm’s patented technology that reduces manufacturing costs of solar panels. Meanwhile, expect Jeff to provide some notes from Friday’s NASDAQ adventures in the next round of his Techpreneurship blog, from which he is taking a break this week while he parties in the Big Apple.

Congratulations to SSS. Keep up the good work. (And after you ring the bell, call the Hogs and then stomp on a Florida hat. The story of your win and subsequent bell-ringing will grow some legs in a hurry…)

Oh, and be sure to look for INOV8′s latest component, the DoctorPreneur blog from John James of Acumen Holdings, appearing in this space on Tuesdays.

Silicon Solar Solutions has excelled on the international business-plan circuit over the past year, winning three prestigious competitions and placing in the top three in each of the eight events in which it competed. Part of the booty in winning two of the competitions was getting to ring the NASDAQ closing bell in New York, which SSS officers did in August. [...]
